The stars sparkled brightly, the performances were electrifying, and the audience enjoyed a thorough feast of the different flavors of African Music. AFRIMMA 2021 ‘Flavors of Africa’ Edition was indeed a beautiful celebration of the Biggest African Music Award in Diaspora.
The virtual award ceremony was co-hosted by superstar Comedian Bovi and elegant screen goddess Tashara Parker and was live streamed to fans across the world. Tanzania’s Nandy, Zuchu, Kenya’s Sauti Sol, South Africa’s Focalistic, Nigeria’s Ladipoe and Ruger lighted up the ceremony with terrific performances. Mozambican star Dj Tarico and Yaba Buluku Boys as well as Soweto’s finest all put in enthralling performances.
Wizkid carted home the Artist of the Year and Crossing Boundaries With Music Award as well as Song of The Year with Tems and Justin Bieber for ‘Essence’. Focalistic won Best Collaboration with Davido and Diamond Platnumz bagged Best Male East Africa. Adekunle Gold and Simi made it a double slam winning Best Male West Africa and Best Female West Africa respectively.
The unique theme ‘Flavors of Africa’ draws inspiration from the diverse flavors found on the continent. Like the people, the food, and the culture, the music comes in different melodic flavors and this virtual ceremony was a musical experience of the different flavors of African music. Crossing boundaries with music is the mantra that gave birth to this award show and incorporating the music festival gives fans and audience a chance to enjoy their favorite acts the more with longer performance sets as seen at AFRIMMA 2018. The venue for the festival celebrating of African music this year remains the prestigious The Bomb Factory, Dallas, a high profile venue that has hosted some of the finest and upscale events in Dallas, Texas.
